What's next for No More Tears?
Hi dreamers,
Today I am answering the question: What's next for No More Tears?
What's in store for No More Tears now that I have officially queried it to French publishers? To be honest, I sometimes feel a little bit lost when I think about it. Some publishers still have closed submissions, so I plan to submit my work once they reopen. I reached out to French literary agents at the same time because maybe one of them would fall in love with my work, defend it with passion, and get publishers' attention. It is a bit of an ouroboros because some publishers would want you to go through an agent because they do not take unsolicited manuscripts, while the agents themselves would not want to work with you unless you have published something traditionally.
How do you do it when you are a nobody with no connections? There is no all-purpose answer. There is no path that one must take if they want to get published. You have to put yourself out there. You have to make your work known. You have to work through this. You work hard, push boundaries, and leave your comfort zone. It is extremely difficult for me, who suffers from chronic clinical depression and mild anxiety. It is one of the most stressful things I have ever done for myself, and I do not know where I find the strength to go through with it. I guess it has something to do with me making a promise to Asma and letting her story out. I want the world to know her. I have to stress the necessity of forming strong bonds with fellow authors, but also with your audience. Take a moment to read, answer questions,
Do I have a plan for what happens next? If it works and a good publisher picks up my book, then it will follow the classic path of a book. Printed in French, I'll work with a friend on the cover; hopefully it sells well, and we can think about an English translation. I will keep on talking about it so it can reach an international audience. If it does not work? Well, I will submit it to other publishers (and will do so in 2027 when they do an open call for manuscripts). I will keep building an audience for the book on my socials (Instagram and my website mostly). I am preparing my English querying file, so I should be ready to submit it internationally. Of course, all of this takes time, and I am not going to lie and pretend I did not think about quitting more than once. But I owe myself the effort to exhaust every single way to get my work out there before I can call it quits. I have to push through. I have to see the end to it. If nobody wants to try with me, then I will simply abandon my dream of having my book traditionally published and will become a self-published author. However, I would not go through Amazon publishing for this one, given all the issues I am facing with my poetry anthology. I have time to think this through and research better. Until then, thank you for the support. It really means a lot to me.
Stay lively, dreamers ⭐
